The AppRadioLIVE App (“AppRadioLIVE App” or “the App”) is a mobile application that allows you to use the Pioneer Cloud Service (“Service”) with your compatible Pioneer product. The AppRadioLIVE App and the Service are referred to in this Privacy Policy together as “AppRadioLIVE.”
Your privacy is important to Pioneer (“Pioneer,” “we” or “us”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. To better protect your privacy and to be transparent, we provide this Privacy Policy explaining how we and some of the companies we work with collect, use, share and protect your personal data in connection with AppRadioLIVE.
Before you use AppRadioLIVE, you should read through this Privacy Policy completely and make sure that you are comfortable with our privacy practices.
1. The controller
The data controller responsible for the processing of your personal data is PIONEER CORPORATION, incorporated at 28-8, Honkomagome 2-chome, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0021, Japan (“Pioneer”).
2. The information collected through AppRadioLIVE
The following information can be collected through the AppRadioLIVE (hereafter together referred to as “User Data”):
2.1. Account information
It is not required to create an account to enjoy the use of AppRadioLIVE. However, by not creating an account, the use of the AppRadioLIVE will be limited.
By creating such an account, Pioneer can provide you access to additional services and can also store user preferences & usage history, enabling a better user experience. Pioneer collects and stores the information required to create an AppRadioLIVE user account.
In order to create an AppRadioLIVE account, the minimum information required is your email address, user ID, login password, country of residence and IP address. In addition, you can optionally provide your first and last name, date of birth and gender.
2.2. Location information
When you launch the AppRadioLIVE App and give consent to access location information, Pioneer will automatically collect your location information using the GPS function. If you do not consent to give access to location information, you can still use AppRadioLIVE, however, some functions related to location information cannot be used.
2.3. Log data and device ID
When you use AppRadioLIVE, Pioneer collects the log data and device ID from your device.
2.4. Analytics information
A third party, Verizon Media, collects analytics information and device identifiers using its Flurry Analytics software to automatically from your device. This information concerns data such as agent version, platform, SDK version, timestamp, API key (identifier for App), App version, iOS device identifier for advertising, iOS device identifier for Vendors, Android ID, BB Pin, Media Access Control (MAC) address, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), device model, manufacturer and OS version of the device, session start/stop time, IP address, device type, locale (specific location where a given language is spoken), time zone, network status (WiFi etc.), events, errors, page views, mobile carrier, language setting, geographic region, number of new App users per day, number of sessions per day, number and type of third-party apps launched, and the App version.
2.5. Information used by connected third-party services
You have the choice to connect AppRadioLIVE with other external third-party services such as INRIX, Yelp, Feedly, and YouTube. If you use AppRadioLIVE while allowing it to connect with third-party services, Pioneer may collect linked information from such connected third-party services necessary for cooperation.
If you link your AppRadioLIVE account with third party services, Pioneer will store a token provided by these services, which will enable you to access the services without logging in each time. This token is anonymized, which means that the token cannot be linked back to you or your user account on a third-party service provider site.
In addition, Pioneer will process your preferences, favorites and usage history. Pioneer will also process anonymized location data and will log each call of the App or of your device to the Service.
3. Purpose and legal basis for processing of User Data
3.1. Processing for the operation of AppRadioLIVE
Pioneer processes collected account information, information on log data and device ID and location information for the following purposes:
Pioneer processes this data based on your consent, on our obligation to perform contracts with you, or to pursue Pioneer’s legitimate interests to improve the Service and the App, to market our products and services and to keep our customers satisfied.
You can withdraw your consent, or object to the processing of your personal data at any time.
3.2. Processing for analytics purposes
Analytics information (see above section 2.4) is sent to a third-party analytics tool, called Flurry Analytics from Verizon Media, by Flurry’s software embedded in the App on your device. Information collected through Flurry Analytics is used by Verizon Media to provide Pioneer with aggregated, non-identifiable App usage data. For additional information on Flurry’s practices on data privacy and security in connection with Flurry Analytics, please visit Verizon Media’s privacy policy (www.verizonmedia.com/policies/us/en/verizonmedia/privacy/index.html).
Pioneer receives aggregated, non-identifiable reports on usage from Flurry Analytics (“reports” or “App usage data”). Pioneer uses these reports to track how the compatible Pioneer product, the App and compatible third-party apps are used in order to:
3.2.1. Processing by Pioneer
Pioneer processes the App usage data for the purposes set out above based on your consent and on Pioneer’s legitimate interest in continuously improving its products and services and the user experience.
In this regard, Pioneer is the controller for the processing of your personal data.
Flurry Analytics “hashes” analytics information such as iOS device identifiers, MAC address and IMEI, meaning it transforms the identifiers into a new value or key representing the original identifier, a Flurry ID. Flurry Analytics does not hash platform device identifiers such as the iOS Identifier for advertising, Android ID and the BB Pin. The information will not be retained in a form allowing direct identification.
If you do not wish for the information to be collected and used in this way, you may opt out by deleting the App.
3.2.2. Processing by Verizon Media
The analytics information collected by Verizon Media can also be used to improve Verizon Media’s services, including the Flurry Analytics and Advertising services. Verizon Media may especially use the information to target the advertising you see on some of the other apps on your device.
In this regard, Verizon Media is the controller for the processing of the information and its privacy policy governs the processing of your information. Verizon Media’s Privacy Policy can be retrieved via www.verizonmedia.com/policies/us/en/verizonmedia/privacy/index.html.
If you do not wish for the information to be collected and used in this way, you may opt out by deleting the App.
3.3. Processing for the provision of other websites and co-branded services
In order to provide traffic information, event information, weather information, news and entertainment information etc., as part of the Service through connected external service providers, AppRadioLIVE may enable you to view, visit, or use applications, websites, products, and services provided by third parties such as INRIX, OpenWeatherMap, Yelp, Feedly, YouTube, etc. Therefore, Pioneer provides necessary User Data to such connected external services and receives information from the same.
Pioneer processes the User Data as needed to connect with the external services as part of the provision of the Service. Pioneer processes this User Data based on your consent as it is your choice to allow the App to connect with the external services through your smartphone and App settings. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Information collected by third parties, which may include location data, contact details, or personally identifiable information, is governed by their privacy policies and practices. We recommend that you learn about the privacy practices of those third parties before providing them with any information:

In some instances, we may offer a service or feature that is co-branded with a third party. If you provide information in connection with a co-branded service or feature, that information may be shared between us and the third party. Although our processing of that information is governed by this Privacy Policy, the third party’s processing of the information will be subject to their privacy policy.
4. Sharing of information processed by Pioneer
Pioneer will share the information with the following third parties:
4.1. Third Party Vendors (data processors)
Pioneer may share User Data with data processors for the management and operation of AppRadioLIVE. These selected third-party vendors will have access to personal information solely as needed to provide support for customer communications, server hosting and technical support of our systems. In this case, the App will take appropriate measures regarding the transfer to and processing of personal data by these companies. Each company is required to keep the information confidential and secure and to use it only for the limited purpose for which we share it.
4.2. Third Party Application Providers
Based on the reports we receive from Verizon Media, we may report to third-party developers who have made AppRadioLIVE-compatible apps on the usage of AppRadioLIVE or the number of times their applications have been launched via AppRadioLIVE. This data will be aggregated and will not provide the developers with information that identifies you or your mobile device.
4.3. Companies with whom Pioneer collaborates
In some instances, we may work with non-Pioneer companies to develop new products and services or improve our existing ones, and such collaboration may include the sharing of the App usage data. This data will be aggregated and will not provide those companies with information that identifies you or your mobile device.
4.4. Law enforcement
We may report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we reasonably believe to be unlawful, that we reasonably believe may aid a law enforcement investigation into unlawful activity, or if we reasonably believe that you have violated our policies, or the release of the information may protect the rights, property or safety of Pioneer, you, or another person.
4.5. (Potential) Legal proceedings
We may share the information with others as required or permitted by law. If necessary, this may include sharing information with governmental entities or third parties in response to subpoenas, court orders, other legal process, or as we believe is necessary for compliance, to exercise our legal rights, to defend against legal claims that have been brought against us, or to defend against possible legal claims that we determine in our sole discretion might be brought against us.
4.6. Business transition
In the event that Pioneer, substantially all of Pioneer’s assets, or the business unit offering the App, is acquired, the information may be transferred to the acquiring company.
5. Transfer to third countries
The servers for the App reside in the USA and the EEA. Partner companies concerning this application or third parties with whom the information is shared (such as Verizon Media) are located across the world. Therefore, User Data may be transferred to other territories where users are not residing. Some of the territories where information may be transferred may include countries with levels of personal data protection that differ from those in the user’s country of residence. However, our company will protect User Data in accordance with this policy.
5.1. For users in the European Economic Area
User Data may be stored or transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA) for the purposes described above. It is possible that this transfer occurs via third parties established outside the EEA territory or because data are stored on a server that is located or is accessible from outside the EEA.
In this respect, Pioneer respects all applicable rules and protective measures in this regard. Pioneer is committed to always ensuring an adequate and sufficient level of protection for your data, in particular by relying on an adequacy decision under article 45 GDPR, or by concluding standard contractual clauses under article 46.2 GDPR. Pioneer is located in Japan. Data transfers to Pioneer in Japan are covered by the adequacy decision concluded by the European Commission and Japan.
6. Protection of the information processed by Pioneer
Pioneer employs appropriate technical measures to prevent the unauthorized access, loss, destruction, manipulation, leakage, etc., of User Data.
Further, Pioneer has instituted reasonable and appropriate measures to ensure the information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and to help prevent it from becoming disclosed to individuals who are not described in this Privacy Policy.
We choose service providers that we believe provide sufficient guarantees in respect of security. We demand the same security measures from the service providers as we impose on ourselves. We conclude a contract with every service provider and thereby stipulate the service provider’s duties to ensure data protection. Although we make every effort to protect your personal information and privacy, we are unable to guarantee the absolute security of the information.
7. Retention period of the personal data
To delete your User Data, please delete your account in the smartphone app. Even after deletion of the account, certain data (information regarding your favorites listed on connected external services and the email address listed on the log and the error log issued at the time of a login failure) are stored for up to 6 months in cloud computing environment provided by our service contractor.
8. Your rights as a data subject
If you are a user in the European Economic Area, you have a right of access to your data, a right to correct your data, a right to the erasure of your data, a right to limit the processing of your data and a right to ask the portability of your data. You also have a right to object to the processing of your data in general as well as to the processing of your data for direct marketing and profiling purposes. Some of these rights may be subject to conditions or exceptions. If the processing of your data is based on consent, you also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, without this affecting the legitimacy of the processing done prior to the withdrawal of your consent.
If you live in other regions, you may have similar rights under applicable law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) for California, U.S.A. residents, which also includes the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. Pioneer does not sell the personal information described in this Privacy Policy.
If you wish to exercise your various rights related to the collected information or make various requests or inquiries, you may contact us through the methods explained below. Upon confirming the content of the communication, we will respond appropriately.
In accordance with article 77 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), if you are in the EEA, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of your habitual residence, your place of work or the place of an alleged infringement of the GDPR. Users outside of the EEA who are dissatisfied with the processing of User Data by Pioneer can issue their complaints to the appropriate regulatory authority according to applicable law.
9. Changes to the Privacy Policy
Pioneer may update, modify or amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. By using the AppRadio Live App after posting of the revised version through the AppRadioLIVE App, you consent to the updated version of this Privacy Policy. . If there are any major changes, we will notify you about such changes either through the AppRadioLIVE App or by email. Material changes will only affect the information we collect after the effective date of the change to our Privacy Policy unless we clearly express otherwise.
10. Children’s Privacy
We do not provide products and services to children, or knowingly collect or solicit information from children under the age of 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 16, we will delete that information as quickly as we can.
